Valparaiso University’s women’s soccer team will be wearing pink jerseys for its match against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Sunday, October 12 in support of breast cancer awareness.

            Individuals can sponsor the jerseys for a minimum donation of $50, which will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.  The first 21 donors will be able to have a name placed on the back, which can be a survivor or loved one who has been affected by breast cancer.  After the match, the player will autograph the jersey and present it to the donor.

            “As a program we spoke about how we could support women in general and we learned that Northwest Indiana needs to be more informed about breast cancer,” head coach John Marovich said.  “Hopefully this can help decrease the loss of life due to the disease.”

            In addition, the team will walk out with breast cancer survivors during introductions.  Any survivor who would like to take part in the festivities should contact Heather Clark at Heather.Clark@valpo.edu or 219-464-5319.

            Several different activities will also be taking place during the match geared toward detection and early awareness of the disease.  In addition, donations will be accepted throughout the match in addition to jersey sponsorship.  Everyone is invited to come out and not only support Crusader soccer but also help fight the disease.
