Crusaders Shutout by Cal Poly

Three goals covering a span of 7:15 over both halves proved more than enough as Cal Poly downed Valparaiso 4-0 on Friday evening in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Mustangs outshot the Crusaders 28-4 for the match and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Cal Poly (2-1) got on the board in the 17th minute as Stephanie Hedien scored from 15 yards out. The Mustangs added a second goal before halftime as Erica Claussen scored unassisted on a breakaway at 40:30.

The Mustangs added a third goal just 43 seconds into the second half as Brooke Flamson scored from 10 yards out on the left side to increase the lead to 3-0. Becky Clark added the final goal at the 47:45 mark floating a high lob into the back of the net.

Cathy DeVito (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) tallied the lone Valpo shot on net in the match.

Valpo (0-2) will return to action on Sunday afternoon when the face Pacific on the final day of the Cal Poly Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. CDT.
