Valpo Shutout by Indiana State

Valparaiso's women's soccer team dropped its fifth straight match to begin the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to Indiana State 2-0 in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Sycamores got on the scoreboard at the 16:58 mark on a goal by Ashlie Voerg off an assist from Laura Gentry. Indiana State then added an insurance goal at the 82:02 mark as Claire Hemkens scored her third goal of the season after collecting a Jamie Brinck rebound.

Carey Patton made four saves for Indiana State (2-2-1) to earn the shutout victory, while Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) made two stops for Valpo.

The Sycamores outshot the Crusaders 18-13 for the match, including a 13-6 advantage in the opening half.

Valparaiso (0-5) will return to action on Friday afternoon when the Brown and Gold travel to Northern Iowa for a 5 p.m. match.
