Valparaiso University head coach Stephen Anthony has announced the promotion of John Marovich to associate head coach for the Crusaders' women's soccer program.

Marovich, who has served as an assistant for Anthony for the past three seasons, moved into the full-time role at the university effective July 1. In his first three seasons on the Valpo bench, the Brown and Gold have earned a pair of Mid-Continent Conference Tournament berths, including advancing to the title match in 2004, finishing the season 10-8-2.

Prior to arriving at Valpo, Marovich served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame during the 2001 season, helping lead the Fighting Irish to the Big East regular season and tournament championships. Notre Dame advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Before moving to the collegiate field, he was the head coach at Andrean High School for seven seasons, where he won two conference titles, three sectional championships, a regional and semi-state title, and guided the 59ers to the state championship match in 1999. He was the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Indiana private/parochial school Coach of the Year in 1999.

Marovich has earned his United States Soccer Federation ?B" License. He is also an Indiana State Olympic Development Program age group head coach.
