Wednesday, September 7, 2005
Brittany Derksen (Chugiak, Alaska/Chugiak H.S.) and Courtney Rahrig (Centennial, Colo./J.K. Mullen H.S.) brought home Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Week honors for Valparaiso after leading the Crusaders to two wins over the weekend.

Derksen, who shared Offensive Player of the Week recognition with IUPUI's Stacy Downing, found her way into the Valpo record books with her performance against Lipscomb, recording only the third hat trick in Crusader history. She also scored the game-winning goal against Indiana State. For the week, Derksen registered four goals on just five shots. She currently is tied for the Mid-Con lead in goals with four, and is second in points with eight.

Rahrig, who was named Defensive Player of the Week, headed a stingy Crusaders defense in victories over Lipscomb and Indiana State. Valpo allowed just four shots on goal over the two matches. Rahrig also notched an assist in each game, and is currently tied for second in the Mid-Con in assists.
