Valpo Drops Final Exhibition Contest at Indiana

Valparaiso concluded its 2005 exhibition season on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.

The two teams battled to a scoreless draw at intermission, with the Hoosiers holding a 7-3 shot advantage at the break.

Indiana jumped in front in the 66th minute as Lindsay McCarthy scored off of an Ali Brown restart for the first goal of the match. Molly Kruger added an insurance tally with a penalty kick goal with just 8:42 remaining in the match.

Valpo was unable to find the back of the net, despite five of six shot attempts being placed on goal. A trio of Hoosier netminders combined on the shutout.

Indiana finished with 19 shots for the match, including 12 in the second stanza. Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made five stops, going the distance in goal for the Crusaders.

Valparaiso will open regular season action on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders host Murray State. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
