The Valparaiso women’s soccer team opened the 2015 regular season Friday evening at #9 Notre Dame, falling to the Fighting Irish by a 6-0 final.
Seven different players made their Crusader debuts on Friday, including a pair of true freshmen earning starting assignments in their first collegiate action. With returning goalkeeper Sydney Galvez-Daley (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick [Creighton]) still on the shelf following offseason surgery, rookie Drew Moulton (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) received the start in goal and made 11 saves, the most by a Valpo goalkeeper since October of 2012. Fellow freshman Caitlyn Oliver (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) started on defense as well, playing 73 minutes.
The Fighting Irish’s Katie Naughton opened the scoring with the eventual match-winner in the sixth minute, while Glory Williams found the back of the net for ND in the 29th minute. Notre Dame (1-0-0) added second-half goals in the 49th, 53rd, 64th and 67th minutes to complete the scoring.
Valparaiso (0-1-0) looks to bounce back and earn its first win of the season Sunday afternoon, as the Crusaders travel to Evanston Township H.S. to take on Northwestern. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., with live stats available at ValpoAthletics.com.
