Quartet Of Crusaders Earn All-League Honors

Four Valparaiso University women’s soccer players were honored on Monday as the Horizon League announced its postseason award recipients. Senior April Cronin (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) represented the Crusaders on the All-League First Team, while sophomore Cory Griffith (Lemont, Ill./Providence Catholic) was a Second Team selection. In addition, Ava Porlier (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and Ali Quillen (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) were both named to the league’s All-Freshman Team.

Cronin earned First Team All-League honors for a third consecutive season as she led the Crusaders during her senior season. Cronin has scored eight goals and tallied four assists on the year, entering the Horizon League Championship second in the league in goals and fourth in points (20). Her four match-winning goals this season are tied for second-most in a season in program history. Cronin will close her career as Valpo’s second-most prolific scorer all-time, ranking second in program history in goals (25), fourth in assists (10) and second in points (60).

Griffith received Second Team All-League recognition for her first career postseason award at the league level. The two-time Offensive Player of the Week enters the league tournament with seven goals and two assists this year. Her five match-winning goals are tied for the league lead and set a new program single-season record.

Quillen has been a stalwart in the back line for the Crusaders as a freshman, appearing in all 18 games and playing a team-high 1,604 minutes. She scored her first career goal in Valpo’s win over Fort Wayne and added an assist in Valpo’s victory in the regular season finale at Northern Kentucky. Porlier joined Quillen as an All-Freshman selection, having appeared in 15 games this season. She tallied a pair of goals against regionally-ranked Western Michigan, earning league Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process, and picked up an assist in Horizon League play versus Detroit Mercy.
