Longino Joins Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

Valparaiso University women’s soccer head coach John Marovich announced today that Katelyn Longino has joined the Crusaders as an assistant coach. Longino comes to Valpo after spending last season on the coaching staff at Xavier University.

“I’m excited to join Valparaiso University and the Valpo women’s soccer program,” said Longino. “I was attracted to the fact that Valpo is really here to aid a student-athlete and provide them great experiences, both on and off the field. Valpo provides a huge opportunity for me to grow, to learn under Coach Marovich and him to mentor me while I get the chance to coach some outstanding young women.”

Longino spent the 2016 season as an assistant coach with the Musketeers after wrapping up her time at Columbus State University. She played as a freshman in 2012 for the Lady Cougars, helping the team to 18 wins and a berth in the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen. Longino then spent the next two seasons as a student assistant, helping guide CSU to a 21-1-1 record and an Elite Eight berth in 2014. In her final year at Columbus State, Longino served as an intern in the athletic department, working directly with women’s soccer as they won 22 matches and reached the national championship match.

“Katelyn is an outstanding person of character and a bright young coach in the profession,” said Marovich. “Her display of enthusiasm and passion for working with student athletes to improve them in Classroom, Competition and Community was unmatched throughout the process. Her coaching insight was developed through playing and coaching with some very talented and highly respected coaches in the business. Her experience and education in the exercise science field fits perfectly with our culture in utilizing technology to assist our student-athletes and staff in maximizing athletic performance. It became very clear as I spoke with individuals who have spent time around Katelyn that she would be a great fit at Valparaiso University and a great representative of the University and our soccer program. We are very fortunate and excited about adding Katelyn to our Valpo Soccer family.”

Longino holds a USSF “D” Coaching License and also brings a wealth of experience coaching club soccer to the position, having held coaching positions with Ohio Elite Soccer Association, CFC Red Star and Columbus Youth Soccer. She graduated from Columbus State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and is currently working towards a master’s degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier University.
