No. 4: Griffith Sets Women’s Soccer Program Record With Four-Goal Game

When it comes to Senior Day memories, this year’s performance by women’s soccer’s Cory Griffith ranks right up there with the very best. Griffith set a program record by scoring four goals in a Senior Day victory over Saint Francis (Pa.), a performance which comes in fourth in our countdown of the Top 10 moments of the year in Valpo Athletics.

Griffith was forced off for five minutes early in the first half with a cleat issue, but came back on in the 17th minute and found the back of the net for the first time in the 20th minute with a right-footed shot. In the 34th minute, Griffith used her head for her second goal of the game, and then completed her perfect hat trick with a left-footed strike in the 39th minute.

Griffith would not be satisfied with her second career hat trick, however, as she completed the record-setting performance with a 48th-minute goal.

Not only did the four goals set a Valpo single-match record, it also tied for the most by any NCAA Division I player in a single game in the 2018 season.

Check back on Sunday as we unveil the No. 3 moment of 2018 in Valpo Athletics.
