Wednesday, December 11, 2002
Valparaiso University's Dan Carl was named the Mid-Continent Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year while four swimmers earned Second Team All Mid-Continent Conference honors following the completion of the conference swim championships over the weekend.

Carl guided the Brown and Gold to a third place finish, just 18 points shy of the runner-up position. This marks the first time in his nine-year career that he has received the honor.

Lauren Bambach (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman H.S.), Britt Nelson (Cortland, N.Y./Homer H.S.), Ashley Seale (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville H.S.), and Katie Urbas (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette H.S.) were all named to the league's second team. The four were members of the runner-up 400 medley relay.

Seale also finished second individually in the 100 butterfly and the 400 individual medley, while Nelson set a new school record in the 1650 freestyle and Urbas broker her own mark in the 200 butterfly.

The Crusaders will take the holidays off from meets before returning to action on Jan. 9 when Valpo hosts Hope at 5 p.m.
