Crusaders Third Heading Into Day Two

Valparaiso's women's swim team is just eight points out of second place after one day of competition at the Mid-Continent Conference Swimming and Diving Championships held Thursday in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Crusaders totaled 94 points, placing behind Western Illinois' 102 points and Oakland's 144 points. IUPUI is fourth with 86 points.

Valpo opened with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay as Julie Fisher (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.), Sarah Deardorff (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove H.S.), Ashley Seale (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville H.S.), and Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) touched the wall in 1:54.45.

Britt Nelson (Cortland, N.Y./Homer H.S.) then turned in a fourth place effort in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:24.93. Maggie Kroemer (Brown Deer, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) was seventh in the event with a mark of 18:48.17, while Katie Ryan (Bremen, Ind./Bremen H.S.) was 14th with a time of 20:24.11.

The day concluded with Valpo finishing second in the 800 free relay. Nelson, Leah Schneider (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.), Allison Clark (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.), and Katie Urbas (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette H.S.) touched the wall in 8:05.39.

Valpo will continue competing at the championships on Friday, with the meet concluding on Saturday.
