Nelson and Korellis Win Twice as Valpo Downs Butler

Britt Nelson (Cortland, N.Y./Homer H.S.) and Rachel Korellis (Champaign, Ill./Centennial H.S.) won two individual events each and Valparaiso won nine events as a team as the Crusaders defeated Butler 144.5-69.5 in their dual meet opener on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Nelson took home top honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.62, while also winning the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:22.26, more than 13 seconds in front of her nearest competitor.

Korellis was victorious in the 50 free with a time of 26.15 seconds, while also winning the 100 free in 56.95 seconds.

Valpo opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as Korellis, Leah Schneider (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.), Ashley Seale (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville H.S.), and Lauren Bambach (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman H.S.) touched the wall in 1:56.07.

Maggie Kroemer (Brown Deer, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) was a 30 second winner in the 1000 free with a time of 11:21.48, before Nelson and Korellis posted their first wins.

Bambach won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:04.18, while Andi Ticknor (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County H.S.) was the winner of 1 meter diving with an 11-dive score of 302.95.

Valpo finished with a win in the 200 free relay as Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.), Daniella Trombatore (Redding, Calif./Shasta H.S.), Allison Clark (Shorewood, Ind./Shorewood H.S.), and Nelson touched the wall in 1:45.05.

Valpo (1-0) will return to the pool on Saturday, October 30, as the Crusaders head to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiates. The meet begins at noon.
