UIC Tops Valpo in Regular Season Finale

Valparaiso ended the dual meet portion of the schedule on Senior Day with a 147-94 defeat at the hands of UIC on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) and Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) finished one-two in the 200 freestyle with Krause edging out her teammate by 0.49 seconds with a time of 2:01.00. Majercik posted a win of her own in the 100 free with a time of 55.83 seconds.

Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) posted a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.56, nearly two seconds ahead of the field. The senior also finished second with a time of 25.77 seconds in the 50 free.

Elizabeth Thompson (Norman, Okla./North H.S.) finished runner-up in the 500 free with her time of 5:30.34.

The Crusaders closed the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay as Krause, Kati Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.), Majercik, and Gregory touched the wall in 1:41.71.

Valparaiso (3-13) will close out the season at the Mid-Continent Conference Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on February 15-17. The first events begin at 9 a.m. CST each morning with preliminary heats with the finals beginning at 5 p.m. CST each night.
