Crusader Women Finish Eighth at Calvin Invitational

Valparaiso closed out the weekend’s competition at the Calvin Winter Invitational on Saturday with an eighth place finish overall.

The Crusaders tallied 79 points in the 11-team event, while Grand Valley State won the meet with 1,118 points.

Rachel Majercik (Shaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) posted a pair of top-16 finishes on Saturday to lead the Crusaders.  The senior finished 14th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.85 while earning a 16th place mark in the 200 individual medley touching the wall in 2:18.56.

Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) led the Brown and Gold in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:36.20 while Karen Berg (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley H.S.) had the team’s fastest time in the 200 backstroke finishing in 2:19.32.

Kristy Shew (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo H.S.) led the Crusaders in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:30.15 while Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) had the best 100 free mark finishing in 57.36 seconds.

Valpo also finished 13th as a team in the 400 free relay as Majercik, Rickey, Erin Owen (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazepa H.S.), and Shew posted a time of 3:46.61.

The Crusaders will take time off for the holidays before returning to action at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind. on January 9 beginning at 11 a.m. CST.
