Valpo Women Remain 8th at Horizon League Championships

Midway through the 2010 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, Valparaiso remains in eighth place in the event being held at the Flames Natatorium in Chicago, Ill.

The Crusaders have tallied 48 points through two days, just 20 behind Butler.  Green Bay leads the way with 316 points followed by Milwaukee (290) and Wright State (261.5).  UIC is fourth with 197 points with Cleveland StateYoungstown State (113.5) fifth and sixth respectively. (167) and

Valpo tallied its only points of the day in the 400 medley relay with a seventh place finish.  Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.), and Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) posted the second fastest relay in school history with a time of 4:03.81. 

In the morning individual preliminary heats, the Crusaders failed to qualify for the finals in any of the events.  Kristy Shew (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo H.S.) posted the team’s fastest time in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:27.05 while Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) was one spot behind her finishing in 5:28.49.

Dangremond posted the team’s top time in the 200 individual medley, finishing 18th overall with a mark of 2:14.42.  Majercik just missed the evening finals in the 50 free with a time of 24.72 seconds, just 0.03 second off the final qualifying spot.

Valparaiso will return to the pool for day three of the competition on Friday morning with preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m.  The day’s finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
