Valparaiso’s women’s swimming team posted a victory over Butler but fell to Evansville and Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders opened the 2010-2011 season in Fishers, Ind.
The Crusaders defeated the Bulldogs 116-77 but fell 186-46 against Evansville. Saint Louis also downed Valpo 166-66.
The Crusaders opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay. Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.), and Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) touched the wall in 4:14.43.
Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) notched three top-five finishes on the day. She was third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.92. She added a fourth place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.67 in her first meet as a Crusader after transferring from IUPUI before the start of the season. She also finished fourth in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 2:19.64.
Dangremond added a fifth place effort in the 200 back as well, posting a time of 2:19.64. Andracki posted a third posted in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:22.70.
Valparaiso (1-2) will return to action on Friday afternoon at the Dennis Stark Relays hosted by Notre Dame. The first event begins at 4 p.m. CDT.
