UIC Defeats Crusader Women Saturday

Valparaiso returned home to the Athletics-Recreation Center pool on Saturday afternoon for its second meet in as many days, dropping a 122-73 decision to UIC.

The Flames won all 11 events on the afternoon to earn the win.

Alizabeth Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.) posted Valpo’s best finish of the day, placing second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:33.94.

Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) turned in a season’s best for the Brown and Gold in the 1000 freestyle, finishing third overall with a time of 11:21.66.

Katrina Peters (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central H.S.) also posted a season’s best in the 50 free while finishing third, turning in a time of 26.30 seconds.  Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.) added another season’s best mark for Valpo in the 100 butterfly, posting a mark of 1:02.26.

Andrea Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./West H.S.) improved in the 100 free by more than a second, posting a season’s quickest time of 58.76 seconds.  Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) added her top mark of the year in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.76.

Valparaiso (1-9) will wrap up three days of completion for the weekend on Sunday afternoon, heading to Fishers, Ind. to battle five other schools.  Butler, Xavier, Hillsdale, Ball State, and IUPUI will all face the Crusaders beginning at 11 a.m. CST.
