Valparaiso posted five event wins on Saturday, including three by Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), but IUPUI edged out the Crusaders 110-94 on Senior Day at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Dangremond, one of four Crusader seniors honored before her final home meet, notched Valpo’s first victory of the day, cruising to a six second win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.58.  She then made it a double with her triumph in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 55.44 seconds, nearly a full second in front of any other competitor.

Dangremond then helped Valpo cap the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay by nearly five seconds.  She joined fellow senior Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.), and freshmen Alizabeth Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.) and Brittany Bencur (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) post a winning time of 3:47.02, a season’s best for the Brown and Gold.

Taubert earned an individual win of her own on the afternoon, posting a season’s best time in the 500 freestyle.  She finished with a time of 5:23.07, winning the event by 1.8 seconds.

Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) added Valpo’s fifth victory of the afternoon as part of a one-two Crusader finish in the 200 breaststroke.  She posted the sixth fastest time in school history with her mark of 2:31.37 while Valpo senior Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) added the runner-up finish with a time of 2:32.90.  Jarrett also added a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.97.

Andrea Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./West H.S.) added to second place finishes by the Brown and Gold with a runner-up mark in the 1000 freestyle.  Her time of 11:05.46 was a season’s best mark by more than 11 seconds, and the freshman finished just 0.43 seconds behind the winner.  Rickey and Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) both added second place marks on the day as well.  Rickey turned in a time of 2:01.80 in the 200 freestyle while Barnes was runner-up in the 200 butterfly with a season’s best mark of 2:14.42.

In addition to Dangremond, Rickey, and Andracki, Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) competed for the final time in her career at home.

Valparaiso (1-11) will conclude the dual meet portion of the schedule next Saturday in Macomb, Ill. as the Crusaders face Western Illinois and Monmouth in double dual action.  The first event is set to begin at 1 p.m.
