Valparaiso’s women swam to a fifth place finish on Sunday in Fishers, Ind. at the Butler Invitational.
The Crusaders tallied 150 points on the afternoon. Youngstown State won the meet with 644.5 points followed by Xavier (Ohio) with 521 points and Hillsdale with 507 points. Butler finished just ahead of Valpo with 224.5 points.
Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charleow Flanigan H.S.) paced the Crusaders with third place effort in the 200 butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:16.82. Segatto also added a fifth place finish in the mile as the freshman touched the wall in 18:42.73. Alex Caruthers (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard H.S.) also finished in the top-10 in the mile, placing ninth with a time of 19:15.40.
Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) added a fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:15.32. In the 200 individual medley, Jarrett also finished fourth with a time of 2:17.08, just 0.04 seconds out of third. The senior also posted a seventh place mark in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.41.
Andrea Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./West H.S.) added an eighth place effort in the 500 free with a time of 5:30.29 while Lauren Knopp (Geneva, Ill./Geneva H.S.) finished ninth in the 50 free with a time of 26.32 seconds.
Valparaiso will return home to the Athletics-Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon to host Butler and Monmouth (Ill.) in a double dual meet. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
