Swimming Drops Duals at Eastern Illinois
Valpo dropped a pair of dual meets to Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

The Valparaiso men’s and women’s swimming teams returned to the pool on Saturday for their second meet in as many days, but both teams lost to Eastern Illinois. The women fell 162-95, while the men fell just short to the Panthers 137-122.

Senior Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) claimed a trio of first place finishes in the women’s 1000 yard freestyle (11:03.11), the 200 yard butterfly (2:16.24) and the 200 yard IM (2:17.38).

Junior Atolo Tuinukuafe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) finished first in men’s 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:16.22, lowering his personal best and tenth-faster Crusader time by .22. He also finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.78).

Senior Makenna Cannon (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) touched the wall first in the women’s 200 yard breaststroke (2:31.71), claimed second in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.58) and finished third in the 200 yard IM (2:22.97).

Junior Erin McBride (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) finished second in the women’s 50 yard freestyle (25.50) and the 100 yard freestyle (56.70). She also swam the anchor leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay that finished in second (1:43.69).

Senior Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico) had a pair of first place finishes in the men’s 200 yard butterfly (1:56.44) and the 100 yard butterfly (52.93).

Senior Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West) finished first in men’s 50 yard freestyle with a 21.91. Freshman Max Penn (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep.) claimed second in the men’s 100 yard backstroke with a 56.71.

Junior Fred Jenny (New Albany, Ohio) claimed first place in men’s 100 yard freestyle (48.92) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.14).

The team of Jenny, Braun, Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton), and Castro Diaz claimed first in the men’s 200 yard freestyle relay, touching the wall in 1:26.97. King, Tuinukuafe and Braun were also on the second place 400 yard medley relay (3:38.29).

Valpo returns to the pool for the Calvin College Invitational from Dec. 4-6 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Start time is set for 9:00 am each day.
