Men's, Women's Swimming Opens at Home

The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams opened up the 2015-16 season Saturday when they hosted Lewis University at the ARC.

Junior Rachel Law (Wayne, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the women’s team, scoring points in four events – the 1000 yard freestyle (11:24.76) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.78), as well as both relay events (200 yard medley, and 400 yard free).

Freshman Casey Main (Fairview, Ohio/Fairview) did not waste any time earning points in her first collegiate meet, scoring in three individual events on Saturday - the 50 yard free (29.43), 100 yard butterfly (1:11.58), and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:21.90).

On the men’s side Max Penn (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) earned points for the Crusaders in three events, including the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.15), 100 yard backstroke (55.94) and the 200 yard medley relay.

Both men’s and women’s 400 yard freestyle relay teams earned second place finishes Saturday. The men’s relay team of Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Oxfored), Tim Mitchell (Lakeville, Minn./North), Colten Lawson (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East), and Alec Domjan (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) hit the wall with a time of 3:16.79. The Crusaders’ women’s relay team of Amanda Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), Erin McBride (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves), Law and Emily Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) finished with a time of 3:48.50.

Valparaiso men’s and women’s swimming teams will both be back in action October 17th in West Lafayette for the Indiana Intercollegiates.
