Valpo Swimming Competes in Butler Invitational
Mac Sogandares posted a season best in the 500 free on Sunday.

Sunday morning saw the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming teams competing in the Butler Invitational, their last tune up before league championships begin in February. The women finished in 10th position, while the men finished in eighth place as a number of swimmers posted season-best times on the second day of back-to-back competitions.

How It Happened

  • Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) earned a season-best time (1:50.57) in the 200-free, adding to a strong freshman campaign.
  • Senior Mac Sogandares (Reston, Va./South Lakes) posted a season-best (4:51.45) in the 500-freestyle to help continue a stellar final season. Freshman Keenan Burgess (Charlotte, N.C./Christ the King) would finish not too far behind him in the same event with a time of 5:06.12, which would earn him a season best as well.
  • A trio of Valpo women earned season lows in the 100-backstroke. The first of them to touch the wall was freshman Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon) (1:13.77), followed closely by junior Emily Baumgartner (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) (1:14.29), and finally senior Casey Main (Fairview, Ohio/Fairview) with a time of 1:15.81.
  • Main would touch the wall in time to earn her second season-best time on the day in the 200-breaststroke (2:43.53).
