Women’s Swimming Continues Fall Season at UNI
Kenzie Conn led off Valpo's 200 medley relay and posted the squad's top time in the 50 free Friday.

The Valpo women’s swimming team continued its fall campaign against MVC opponent UNI Friday afternoon in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

How It Happened

  • A pair of freshmen touched the wall third in their respective individual events on Friday. Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) came home third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.38, while Bridget Pollard (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) finished third with a time of 5:26.84 in the 500 free.
  • Both Hume and Pollard led Valpo in a second individual event as well against the Panthers. Hume was the first Beacon to complete the 100 back, posting a time of 1:03.74, while Pollard finished the 200 free in a team-best 2:02.42.
  • Fellow rookie Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) also paced the Valpo contingent in a pair of events. Strauss led the way in the 100 free (57.14) and the 100 breast (1:11.34).
  • In all, freshmen paced Valpo in eight of Friday’s nine individual events. Sophomore Kenzie Conn (Celina, Ohio/Celina) posted a time of 26.31 for top honors among the Beacons’ swimmers in the 50 free.
  • UNI won the team scoring, 171-53.

Next Up

The Valpo women return to the pool alongside the men’s squad on Saturday for a tri-meet with Green Bay and Youngstown State at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center at Valpo H.S. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
