Stanislaw Earns Mid-Con Tennis Honors

Valparaiso University's Charmaine Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) has been named the first Mid-Continent Conference Tennis Player of the Week on the season after her fourth singles championship at the DePauw Invitational over the weekend.

The senior posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Beth Drewes of DePauw in the quarterfinals and a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Krista Marshall of Baldwin-Wallace in the semis. In the title tilt, Stanislaw downed Kristen Volz of Indianapolis in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Stanislaw also teamed with Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) for a third place finish at first doubles. The duo was a 7-6 (6), 7-5 victor over a duo from Baldwin-Wallace in the quarters before falling to Indianapolis 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. In the third place match, Stanislaw and Dierberg notched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Indianapolis.
