Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Valparaiso University's Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference's women's tennis Athlete of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a 2-1 mark last weekend.

This is the second straight week a Crusader has earned the honor after Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) won the award last week.

Playing fifth singles and second doubles, the sophomore combined to post a 5-1 record. In singles action, her lone loss came against Evansville, as she dropped a tie-break for the third set 11-9. Schwartz did not surrender a game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Robert Morris (Pa.) and her 6-3, 6-4 victory against IPFW clinched the match win for the Brown and Gold.

Teaming with Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) at second doubles, the duo posted victories of 8-4, 8-2, and 8-6 on their way to a perfect weekend.

On the season, Schwartz is 5-5 in singles play and 5-5 in doubles action as well. Valpo (4-2) will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to battle Western Michigan. First serve is set for 5 p.m. CST.
