Valparaiso opened its 2009 spring trip in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday morning, dropping a 7-0 match to Creighton.
The Blue Jays opened doubles play winning all three matches for the opening point. Kelsey Schmidt and Lauren Mastro defeated Camill Burden(Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) 8-1 at third doubles while Nicole Nakoka and Tess Reddin posted an 8-0 win at the top spot against Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.). Creighton finished the doubles swee as Leesa Cadwallader and Sarah Cadwallader topped Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) 8-1 at the second spot.
Creighton (3-3) then swept all six singles matches to complete the match shutout. Reddin defeated Keifer 6-0, 6-0 at number one while Mastro downed Bilyeu at the second spot by the same score. Schmidt beat York 6-1, 6-0 at third singles while Nakoka beat Antrobus 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth spot. Mary Pat McMullan defeated O’Reilly 6-2, 6-2 at the fifth spot while Sarah Cadwallader topped Burden 6-3, 6-0 at the bottom of the lineup.
Valparaiso (1-6) will return to action on Tuesday morning as the Crusaders take on Shorter beginning at 10 a.m. CDT.
