Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) won at number four singles for Valparaiso but it was not enough as the Crusaders fell 6-1 to Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
York improved to 2-1 in singles play on the fall with her 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 victory over Kara Paroubek.
“We played with a lot of heart today,” head coach Traci Young said. “Stephanie did a great job staying with her match through the tie-break.”
Jordan Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) added an 8-4 victory at number two doubles against Samantha Busch and Paroubek, but the Pumas won at one and three doubles to earn the first point.
Heather Esker and Katee Sanderson downed Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 8-3 at the top spot while Anisha Gohil and Jordan Orner were 8-6 winners over York and Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.).
In singles play, Sanderson downed Brittany O’Reilly 6-0, 6-0 at the top of the lineup while Busch defeated Stephanie Krebs (Idaho Falls, Idaho/Idaho Falls H.S.) by the same score at sixth singles. Esker topped Buterbaugh 6-1, 6-2 at number two while Gohil defeated Bilyeu 6-1, 6-1 at the third spot. Orner added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jackie O’Reilly in the final match.
Valparaiso will wrap up its fall season October 2-3 at the Mastodon Invitational hosted by IPFW in Fort Wayne, Ind.
