Valpo Women Drop Season Opener at Western Michigan

Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team dropped its 2010 spring season opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Western Michigan (5-2) opened strong, winning all three doubles matches by 8-0 scores.  Jill Pastunink and Maggie Remynse defeated Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) and Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) at the top of the lineup while Yumi Matsuto and Maria Nivia downed Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) at the second spot.  April Kerr and Rachel Denny topped Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) at third doubles.

York played the closest singles match at number four, falling 6-1, 6-1 to Pastunink while Bilyeu fell 6-1, 6-0 at the third spot to Amanda Moccia.  The Broncos took the other four matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.  Emily Dudzik downed Wright at number one while Remynse defeated Brittany O’Reilly at the second spot.  Nivia bettered Jackie O’Reilly at number five while Matsuto defeated Antrobus at the sixth spot.

Valparaiso (0-1) will return to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Bradley at Matchpoint Tennis Club.  First serve is set for 1 p.m.
