Valparaiso continued its five-match road trip on Sunday morning, falling 7-0 to Youngstown State in Horizon League play at Boardman Tennis Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
The Penguins opened the match winning all three doubles contests. Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) played the tightest match at the second spot, falling 8-6 to Hannah Patten and Gimena Puppo. At the top spot, Margarita Sadovnikova and Karolina Sjokvist topped Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) 8-1 while Carolyn Jesko and Annie Jesko were 8-3 victors over Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) at number three doubles.
Youngstown State (5-8, 2-2 Horizon) won all six singles contests in straight sets. Sadovnikova downed Jackie O’Reilly 6-1, 6-3 at first singles while Carolyn Jesko downed Brittany O’Reilly 6-1, 6-0 at the second spot. Puppo defeated Bilyeu 6-4, 6-2 at number three while Sjokvist was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against York at four singles. Patten topped Zakiewicz 7-5, 6-1 in the fifth spot while Annie Jesko was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Zdanovec.
Valparaiso (0-12, 0-5) will return to the courts on Wednesday afternoon with a match at Chicago State. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
