The Valparaiso women’s tennis team closed out its 2012 fall campaign on Monday afternoon, dropping a 9-0 decision at Wayne State in Detroit, Mich.
Monday’s action started with doubles play, with all three doubles matches contributing to the match score. Sophomores Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) and Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) fell at second doubles by a 8-3 score to Julia Kamenko and Alex Poissant, while sophomore Angelina Goheen (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) and senior Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) lost by the same score at third doubles to Tanya Joseph and Jessica Kruczek. At first doubles, sophomore Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph’s) and junior Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) dropped an 8-0 match to Anne Li Briand and Yahsha Moore.
In singles action, Zakiewicz fell to Moore at first singles 6-1, 6-1. Fredlake lost at second singles by a 6-2, 6-0 score to Kamenko, while Hamel dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at third singles against Poissant. Briand downed Barthels at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, while O’Reilly lost to Kruczek at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-2. Goheen rounded out the Crusader lineup at sixth singles, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Joseph.
