Crusaders Defeat Wisconsin-Green Bay

Valparaiso's women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 neutral site victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday afternoon in Chicago, Ill.

Valpo won two of the three doubles points on the afternoon. Mara Sonkin (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South H.S.) and Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) defeated Amber Murdoch and Kristin Leeder 8-3 at second doubles, while Jill Dierberg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) and Charmane Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) were 8-4 victors at third doubles.

Sonkin then picked up a straight sets 6-0, 6-4 victory at first singles, while Janssen was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at the second spot for the Brown and Gold. Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North H.S.) won 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 at the fourth spot, while Dierberg registered a 6-4, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Stanislaw rounded out the lineup with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.

The Crusaders will conclude their fall season this coming weekend when Valpo travels to the Southern Illinois Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
