Valparaiso was upended at Matchpoint Tennis Club on Saturday evening as the Crusaders dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of Toledo.

The Rockets won the doubles point to get the match started. Myriam Cueva and Eunice Paravicini shutout Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) 8-0 at the top spot while Sarah VanderMolen and Sarah Horning were 8-1 winners over Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Charmaine Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.). The Crusaders earned a win at number two doubles as Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) defeated Viviana Rivero and Jenny Belsky in a tie-break 8-7 (4).

Toledo (6-2) won five of the six singles contests to wrap up the victory. Valpo's lone win came at third singles as Evangelist won by default over Rivero. Janssen fell 6-4, 6-2 to Cueva at the top of the lineup while Chada dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Paravicini at number two. In the fourth spot, Belsky downed Stanislaw 6-0, 6-0 and VanderMolen was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.). Sajevic forced a super tie-break for the third set against Horning but fell 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

Valparaiso (2-2) will be idle for more than two weeks now before the Crusaders head to Las Vegas, Nev. for their spring trip. Valpo will face Oakland in a non-conference match on March 10 beginning at 4 p.m. CST.
