Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) recorded the only victory of the afternoon for Valparaiso on Tuesday as the Crusaders dropped a 7-0 decision to Idaho State in Las Vegas, Nev.

The duo downed Armine Sarkavagyan and Anastasia Sazykina 8-5 at second doubles, but the Bengals took the other doubles contests to earn the first point of the match. Denise Cockrell and Lauren Pascoe defeated Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) in a tie-break 9-8 (5) at the top of the lineup while Katherine Zigars and Valerie Espinosa were 8-1 victors over Charmaine Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) and Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran North H.S.) at number three doubles.

In singles play, Idaho State (1-5) won all six contests in straight sets. Cockrell downed Janssen 6-4, 6-4 at number one while Sarkavagyan defeated Chada 6-1, 7-6 (5) at the second spot. Pascoe was a 6-4, 6-2 victor over Evangelist and Espinosa defeated Stanislaw 6-1, 6-1 at third and fourth singles respectively. Zigars posted a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) at fifth singles and Sazykina downed Schwartz 6-2, 6-3 at the bottom of the order.

Valparaiso (4-4) will look to snap its two-match losing skid as the Crusaders wrap up their spring trip on Wednesday morning against Colorado State. First serve is set for 12 p.m. CST.
