Valpo Cruises Past Robert Morris

Valparaiso lost just five games total in nine matches on the way to a 7-0 shutout of Robert Morris (Pa.) on Saturday evening in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Crusaders began their solid play in doubles action. Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Julie Wingstrom (Wolcotville, Ind./Westview H.S.) started the rout with an 8-0 blanking at third doubles. Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) then posted an 8-1 victory at the top spot. Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) and Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at second doubles.

As play shifted to singles, Valpo posted five 6-0, 6-0 blankings. Evangelist was a shutout winner at second singles while Sajevic did not surrender a game at the third spot. Chada also registered a win by the same score at fourth singles against Robert Morris (0-5) as did Schwartz at the fifth spot. Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) closed out the 6-0, 6-0 victories at the sixth spot. Janssen notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top of the order.

Valparaiso (3-2) will close out weekend action in Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon with a 12 p.m. CST match against IPFW.
