Saturday, April 14, 2007
Valparaiso allowed UMKC to win just eight games on the afternoon, four in singles play and four more in doubles action, as the Crusaders won their third straight match while moving over .500 for the first time since late February, defeating the Kangaroos 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, Mich.

Valpo posted its first blanking of the afternoon at second doubles as Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) defeated Holland Davis and Elaine Suba 8-0. Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Julie Wingstrom (Wolcotville, Ind./Westview H.S.) added an 8-2 triumph against Caitlin Burke and Akshara Reddy at the top of the doubles lineup while Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Lindsey Gustafson (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched a victory by the same score against Suzanne Bott and Nicole Kofron to capture the day's first point.

In singles play, the Crusaders did not allow UMKC (0-15, 0-7 Mid-Con) to win a game at four of the six spots, and did not surrender a second set game at all. Janssen posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Reddy at number one while Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) downed Burke by the same score at second singles. Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) shutout Davis at the third spot while Gustafson earned her first Mid-Con victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Suba at the bottom of the order. Schwartz downed Kofron 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth spot while Keifer beat Bott by the same score at number five.

Valparaiso (10-9, 4-2) will wrap up the 2007 regular season on Sunday morning with an 8 a.m. CDT match against Western Illinois (11-7, 4-2) in Rochester, Mich.
