Valpo Women Close Fall Season with 7-2 Loss at Robert Morris

Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team closed its 2010 fall season on Saturday morning with a 7-2 loss to Robert Morris (Ill.) at Millennium Courts in Chicago, Ill.

The Eagles opened by sweeping all three doubles contests.  Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) fell 8-5 to Alejandra Gamboa and Stephanie Messina at number one while Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) and Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) fell by the same score against Karyn Emeralda and Ana Kostic at the second spot.  Robert Morris won third doubles by default. 

In singles play, Zakiewicz and Bilyeu both earned wins for Valpo’s lone points.  Zakiewicz was a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 winner against Messina at the third spot while Bilyeu won 6-2, 6-0 against Katie Jensen at number five singles.  Bilyeu finished the fall season with a team high five singles wins.

Gamboa defeated Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 6-0, 6-0 at the top of the order while Kostic was a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jackie O’Reilly at number two.  Samantha McQueen topped York 6-2, 6-3 at the fourth spot while the Eagles won sixth singles by default.
