Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team stepped out of Horizon League action on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 7-0 match to Oakland at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Center in Bloomfield, Mich.
The Golden Grizzlies opened the match winning all three doubles contests. Valpo’s Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) played the tightest match of the day at the second spot, falling 8-6 to Demi Gerogakopoulos and Karen Karoub. Jackie Dinicu and Caitlin Young were 8-3 winners over Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) at number one doubles. At the third spot, Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) fell 8-0 to Amanda Pettey and Grace Keating.
Oakland (6-10) won all six singles contests in straight sets. Young was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Jackie O’Reilly at number one singles while Keating beat Zdanovec by the same score at the fourth spot. Brittany O’Reilly fell to Dinicu 6-0, 6-2 at the second spot while Bilyeu fell 6-3, 6-3 at number three against Karoub. Georgakopoulos topped Zakiewicz 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles while Pettey was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over York at number six.
Valparaiso (0-14) will wrap up its five-match road trip on Sunday traveling down the road to Detroit to face Wayne State. First serve is set for 9 a.m. CDT.
