Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) won her singles match at number six while Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) posted a win at number two doubles on Sunday afternoon, but Valparaiso ended up on the short end of a 6-1 match against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at Western Racquet and Fitness Club in Green Bay, Wis.
O’Reilly posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Samantha Iewn to earn Valpo’s point on the afternoon and notch her fourth victory of the season.
Green Bay (3-9, 1-2 Horizon) needed match tie-breaks at both second and fourth singles to defeat the Crusaders. Morgan Weuve topped Hamel 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 at number two while Maria Anderson was a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 winner over Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph’s H.S.).
Jennifer Bradfield defeated Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central H.S.) 6-2, 6-3 at the top of the singles lineup while Amanda Timm topped York 6-3, 6-3 at the third spot. At fifth singles, Rebecca Nelson defeated Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, York and Hamel defeated Nelson and Anderson 8-3 at the second spot. Unfortunately for the Crusaders, the Phoenix posted wins at one and three to take the day’s first point. Weuve and Bradfield topped Barthels and Zakiewicz 8-4 at one while Iwen and Timm were 8-2 winners over Fredlake and Angelina Goheen (Aurora, Ill./Rosary H.S.).
Valparaiso (4-9, 0-4) will conclude its three-match road trip on Friday evening, traveling to Detroit to face the Titans. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
