The Valpo women's tennis team dropped its third straight match Friday night, dropping a 5-2 decision to the IUPUI Jaguars.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kristin Zakiewicz and Michele Fredlake were in a tight 7-6 match when IUPUI clinched the doubles point via a Vanessa Whyte/Rachael Bridegroom win at No. 2 doubles 8-4 over Kaitlyn Hamel and Megan Barthels. The No. 3 doubles team of Lauren Kammerer and Aubree Zdanevoc fell 8-2 earlier to Jaclyn Hyman and Jesika Bays.
Hamel was victorous in three sets in her singles match at No. 4 defeating Bridegroom 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Kammerer gave Valpo another point with a win at No. 6 over Hyman 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5).
Unfortunately those were the only two points the Crusaders could push across.
Fredlake, who was promoted to No. 1 singles, lost her match to Shelby Hullett 6-2, 6-0. IUPUI's Bobbi Modesto won in straight sets over Barthels 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Zakiewicz dropped her No. 3 singles match to Whyte 6-3. 6-1.
The loss set the Crusaders back to 1-6. With the win, IUPUI snapped a five-match losing streak, improving to 2-9.
Valpo will get a quick opportunity to exact revenge tomorrow when they take on Bradley University at noon.
