Barthels Collects Win in Defeat to Bradley
Senior Michele Fredlake and Cary Milanes tallied a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles Saturday morning at Bradley.

Senior Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) rallied back after dropping the first set at No. 5 singles to earn a 4-6, 7-5, 12-10 victory at Bradley on Saturday morning. The Crusaders also registered a win at No. 3 doubles behind a 6-4 triumph from Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto)/Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's).

Bradley utilized five singles victories along with the doubles point to register a 6-1 team victory at the Clubs at River City in Peoria. 

BU's Alexa Brandt and Ashley Thai downed the Crusader duo of Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain)/Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point. The Braves were also victorious at No. 2 thanks to a 6-2 win from Ariel Dechter/Irinka Toidze over Barthels and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster).

Singles play saw tight action throughout. Three Crusaders forced third sets in their matches, including Barthels' marathon victory. 

Hebble dropped her first set at No. 2 singles in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) before taking the second set convincingly, 6-1. Bradley's Dechter prevailed in the third-set tiebreaker, 11-9. 

Heuer also went the distance at No. 4 singles versus Thai. Thai took the third set, 10-5.

Hamel fell atop singles play, 6-1, 6-1 to Brandt. Milanes and Aimee Manfredo battled at No. 3 before the latter scored a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Bradley's Beth Przystawski recorded a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 against Fredlake.

Valpo (0-3) will return home for a doubleheader next weekend. Nebraska-Omaha (2-3) and IUPUI (1-3) will visit the Courts of NWI Friday and Saturday, respectively. First serve is slated for 11:00 am CT Friday.
