Freshman Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) won her second singles match in as many days at No. 2, but IUPUI escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Valparaiso women's tennis team Saturday afternoon at the Courts of NWI.
The Crusaders seized the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2.
Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) collected a tight win over Abbey Neff/Marina Schneiger, 6-4, at No. 2. Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) and Hebble clinched doubles play with a 6-4 victory at No. 1.
IUPUI grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first two matches in singles action.
Valeriia Lavrenchuk downed Hamel, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 before Samantha Mayer scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Heuer at No. 4.
Hebble's 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Neff at No. 2 evened the match at 2-2.
The Jaguars' Rachael Bridegroom provided her team with a crucial point following her 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) at No. 6 singles.
Bobbi Modesto supplied the match-clinching victory for IUPUI (3-4) with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Milanes.
Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) battled at No. 5 to earn a 7-5, 6-2 victory versus Schneiger.
Valpo (1-4)'s next match is slated for Saturday, February 21st versus NIU (5-0) in Rockford, Illinois.
