The Valparaiso women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford.
The Huskies clinched the doubles point via wins at No. 1 and 2.
Nelle Youel/Cristina Alvarez defeated Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain)/Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) 6-2 atop doubles play. NIU's Mary Malkin and Evelyn Nouel wrapped things up with a 6-2 victory over Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto)/Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) at No. 2.
Northern Illinois registered victories at all six singles matches.
Hamel dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 1 singles to Nelle Youel. Arantza De La Torre defeated Heuer 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
NIU secured the match at No. 5 singles by virtue of Abigail Dekkinga's 6-3, 6-1 victory over Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central). Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) gave Jennifer Gates all she could handle at No. 6 before falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Hebble suffered a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 loss to Alvarez at No. 2. The Huskies concluded the afternoon with a triumph at No. 3. Malkin was able to get past Milanes, 6-3, 6-3.
Valpo (1-5) will be back in action next Friday at home. The Crusaders will take on the Wayne State Warriors (15-0) at The Courts of NWI at 2 pm CT.
