Crusaders Close Out UIC Invite Saturday

The Valparaiso women's tennis team closed out the UIC Invite on Saturday in Chicago. The Crusaders finished the tournament after accumulating five wins on the weekend.

Weather forced the shortening of the final day of the five-team event. Sophomore Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) fell 6-4 to Bowling Green's Polina Radeva in their third-place match in the Go Flight.

The Brown and Gold dropped all four of their doubles matches on the afternoon.

Hebble and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) gave it all they had in a narrow 7-6 (3) defeat to Bowling Green's Paula Comella Aguilo/Drew Fillis.

Radeva and Emily Witt got past Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto), 6-2, in their doubles tilt.

Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertville) gave Milwaukee's Hayley Marshall and Laurie Clark a solid match, but fell 6-4.

Bowling Green's Leeah Floyd and Antonina Farrar escaped with a 6-3 triumph over Erin Staal (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard).

Valpo will have a few days to prepare for the Bronco Invitational in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Play begins Friday morning in the three-day event.
