Tabanera Prevails for Women’s Tennis at UIC
Amanda Tabanera won by retirement on Saturday.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team dropped its match 4-1 to UIC at XC Tennis in Chicago on Saturday afternoon. The match used an unusual clinch-clinch format for singles due to limited court availability.

How It Happened

  • Freshman Amanda Tabanera (Valencia, Calif. / Valencia) won her match at No. 3 singles. She was leading 4-1 in the opening set when her opponent could not continue due to an injury, creating a win by retirement for Tabanera.
  • Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) and Claire Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) played a close match at No. 1 doubles but lost 6-4. The No. 2 tandem also fell and No. 3 went unfinished.
  • Claire’s match at No. 1 singles and Demi Jhaveri’s (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) match at No. 5 singles both went unfinished.

Inside the Match

  • Tabanera gained sole possession of the team lead with her 12th singles victory of the season. She improved to 5-2 in dual matches.
