Moira Silva to Join Valpo Tennis Program
Moira Silva will join the Valpo tennis program next season.

The Valparaiso University tennis program has announced the addition of Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Houston Tennis Academy), who will join the team as a freshman for the 2022-2023 academic and athletic year.

Silva, a four-star recruit according to the Tennis Recruiting Network, has finished third at regionals twice and placed in multiple USTA tournaments in both singles and doubles. She has also participated in several other sports, including track & field, cross country, swimming and ice skating.

“I chose Valpo because not only was the tennis team welcoming, the school was welcoming as well,” Silva said. “When I visited, I fell in love with the campus, its people and the environment that seemed to surround the school. It seemed like the best place for me to grow mentally, emotionally, athletically and academically.”

Silva is also a standout in the classroom, where she owns a grade point average above 4.0 and is taking multiple AP classes. She is a member of National Honor Society and serves as a mentor to young girls in her tennis community.

“Moira is continuing to play in tournaments on an every-other-week basis even though she has already signed,” head coach Bob Modesto said. “That really has me fired up. She is going to be a great teammate. You can tell she has good chemistry with the members of our team. You want everybody to get along and be supportive of each other, and she’s going to bring that to the table. It’s also nice to have somebody from Texas as we like having players from all over the United States.”

The Beacons will also welcome Elizabeth Sobieski, who signed in November.
