Czerwonka Sisters Honored as MVC Doubles Team of the Week

Claire and Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) were recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The sisters extended their doubles winning streak to 12 with a 2-0 week at the No. 1 position. They remained undefeated in doubles in dual matches this season (10-0) with victories over Butler and Northern Illinois this weekend. Both matches were one-sided as the sisters dropped two total games this week, earning a pair of 6-1 victories.

The win over the Bulldogs on Saturday in Indianapolis came against Natalie Boesing and Delaney Schurhamer. Boesing was an All-Big East First Team selection as a freshman last year. Sunday’s victory came over NIU’s Erika Dimitriev and Anastasia Rakita and helped Valpo win the doubles point against the Huskies. Olivia now has 40 career doubles wins (10th in program history), and Claire extended her program-record doubles win total to 67.

Olivia has won eight career MVC weekly accolades, while Claire has garnered 11 MVC weekly honors in her accomplished career, eight of which have come as part of the doubles team of the week. This is the second time this season that the Czerwonkas have garnered the league’s doubles team of the week.

The Beacons will begin their Spring Break trip on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Central Time at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Links to live video and stats are available on ValpoAthletics.com.
