Valpo Tennis Announces 2022-23 Team Awards

The Valparaiso University tennis program and head coach Bob Modesto revealed their annual postseason awards at the team’s postseason gathering last week.

Also a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team and MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) earned the team’s Most Valuable Player Award for the third consecutive season. She ranks second in program history in both career doubles wins (62) and career singles wins (63).

The team’s Valpo Awards were presented to Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Houston Tennis Academy) and Elizabeth Sobieski (Muskego, Wis. / Muskego). The high honor is bestowed upon the individuals who best exemplify work ethic, attitude, determination, passion, being a great teammate and being teachable and coachable.

Mia Bertino (Lockport, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) garnered the team’s Most-Improved Award. She won 17 singles matches this year and had a combined 32 singles wins over the last two years.

Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) achieved the squad’s Scholar-Athlete Award. She possesses a 3.90 cumulative grade point averag in digital media.

The program continued to make positive strides, finishing the season with its highest winning percentage since 2006.
