Cherrington Wins Javelin at EMU Invite

Jessica Cherrington (Roseberg, Ore./Umpqua Valley Christian H.S.) won the javelin for Valparaiso as the Crusaders competed in the Eastern Michigan Twilight Invitational on Friday in Ypsilanti, Mich. Team scores were not kept.

Cherrington took home top honors with a throw of 131'1", bettering a field of 26 competitors. Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau H.S.) placed 12th in the shot put with a heave of 40'5 ½" for the Brown and Gold.

On the track, Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.) finished tenth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:46.60 while Rachael Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington H.S.) earned the same place in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:22.32. Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) placed 11th in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in 2:20.95.

Valparaiso will head to the Stan Lyons Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis as the Crusaders compete in their final tune-up prior to the Mid-Continent Conference Championships.
