Sophomore Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) continued her assault on the Valpo record books Saturday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., breaking former All-American Collette Liss' record in the 3,000m run with a time of 9:22.44, the tenth-fastest time in the nation by a NCAA Division I runner this year in the event. Two other Crusaders joined Rolf at the Meyo Invitational, while the rest of the Valpo women's track and field squad took part in the Akron Open.

Rolf placed third out of the 51 runners in the 3,000m run, and was the top collegiate finisher, finishing nearly five-and-a-half seconds clear of the next collegiate runner. The reigning Mid-Con Athlete of the Week improved on her career best in the event by 18 seconds from last week's performance. Also competing at the Meyo Invitational, Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) posted the third-best time in the mile run by a Mid-Con athlete this year, finishing the race in 5:00.30, good for 19th place out of 56 runners. Ashley Billstrom (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) finished 47th in the same event with a time of 5:17.40.

At the Akron Open, Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park) led the way, finishing 10th out of 34 competitors in the 60m hurdle preliminaries. Lane's time of 9.20 is the second-fastest in the event in Valpo history, and was just one-tenth of a second shy of qualifying for the finals. Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) placed 12th among a strong field in the weight throw, registering a toss of 45'3 ¾", setting a new personal best with the fifth-best toss in Valpo history.

Valparaiso returns to the track on Saturday, February 17, as the Crusaders travel downstate to West Lafayette to take part in Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational. The first event is slated to kick off at 10 a.m. Central time.
